Lars Wallsten is a photographer, writer and a researcher working with photography both theoretically and practically. The photographic image is essential.
LW has made several exhibitions that have attracted much attention. His artistic practice is critical and investigative. A number of art projects have used forensic photography as a starting point, but may be seen more broadly as an investigation of conditions and challenges in the photographic medium.
LW has a PhD in Photographic composition. The doctoral thesis examines photography as a trace and as applied visual evidence. It discusses photography in the context of art, science, law and culture. An ongoing research project, is currently studying the interface between artistic research and the traditional academic environment. It highlights knowledge production, pedagogic method development and visual communication, with a primary focus on theory, practice and methods for essay writing.
